Windmill Community Gardens Margate is helping to rebuild local food economies

We believe that changing the way we produce and distribute food is fundamental to solving the world’s most pressing social and ecological problems.

About Windmill Community Gardens Margate

We supply the scheme all year round with seasonal produce, there are times of the year (January – April/May) when our supply is lower due to the gap between growing seasons. At this point we include produce grown at other local organic and chemical free farms (these are located as close to us as possible). We pack the veg bags using reusable paper bags every Wednesday. On Thursday morning we deliver the bags to local collection points around Thanet (including one in Whitstable)

The benefits of buying local

Local food supports local economies. Food grown in the local community supports local jobs and encourages variety in our diets. It also requires less transportation, so it's fresher and has a smaller environmental footprint.

Fresher food

Reduced food miles

Support local jobs

Respect for the food system

Fewer preservatives

Better value for money

Reduced packaging

I get my fruit and veg from here and it is soooo delicious! I will never go back to supermarket. You can taste the freshness & also see how much supermarkets must alter the growing of veg as my cucumber was the biggest I’ve ever seen!
